Yasuhiro Nightow’s “Trigun” is getting a novel with anime writer Takehiko Oxi, published by Shueisha in winter 2026.

The Fall 2026 issue of Shueisha's Jump Square Rise announced that Yasuhiro Nightow's "Trigun" is getting a new novel titled "Trigun: Manuscript", and anime writer Takehiko Oxi, known as Takehiko Okishi, is writing the novel under the supervision of Yasuhiro Nightow to be released in winter 2026.

"Trigun: Manuscript" takes place during the events of "Trigun: Stampede" and "Trigun: Stargaze". The story follows Vash the Stampede, a legendary outlaw called the Humanoid Typhoon who is blamed for obliterating entire cities. He travels the wasteland to minimize the damage inevitably caused by his appearance.

Vash faces his mysterious past, including his estranged twin brother, Million Knives. Knives is a sociopathic twin brother who views humanity as a parasitic plague and orchestrates a campaign for human extinction.

The manga series was published in Tokuma Shoten's Shonen Captain Comics Special from March 1995 to December 1996, and released in 3 manga volumes. The series continued under "Trigun: Maximum", published in Shonengahosha's Young King Ours magazine from October 1997 to March 2007, and released in 14 manga volumes. It also won Best Comic at the 40th Seiun Awards at the 48th Japan Science Fiction Convention in 2009.

Dark Horse Comics licensed the series and released it in English, with the first manga volume released for the Tokuma Shoten version in October 2003 and the Shonengahosha version in May 2004.

It was adapted into a 26-episode anime series that aired in April 1998, and the series is listed among the Best Anime Series of All Time. Followed by a standalone anime film, "Badlands Rumble", released in April 2010. It was also adapted into a reboot anime, including a 12-episode "Trigun: Stampede" in January 2023 and a 12-episode "Trigun: Stargaze" in January 2026.
