Takaya Kagami, Daisuke Furuya, and Yamato Yamamoto's "Seraph of the End" manga ends in December 2026.
The December 2026 issue of Shueisha's Jump Square magazine announced that Takaya Kagami, Daisuke Furuya, and Yamato Yamamoto's "Seraph of the End" will end in the January 2027 issue of the magazine, to be released on Friday, December 4th. In May 2026, the afterword of the 36th manga volume announced that the series ends in the 37th volume.
The story centers on a man-made virus that suddenly spreads across the Earth, killing every human over the age of thirteen. At the same time, vampires emerge from underground to enslave the surviving children, treating them as livestock for their blood.
A young orphan, Yuichiro Hyakuya, tries to escape their underground vampire city alongside his orphan family, including Mikaela Hyakuya. Their plan ends in tragedy when the noble vampire Ferid Bathory, the seventh progenitor among the vampire nobility, massacres the group and mortally wounds Mikaela.
Yuichiro escapes to the surface and joins the Japanese Imperial Demon Army, wielding cursed weapons powered by demons to fight the vampire threat. He believes he is the sole survivor, until he discovers that Mikaela is alive, having been saved and turned into a vampire by the third progenitor, Krul Tepes.
The conflict quickly escalates beyond a simple war between humans and vampires. It draws in the machinations of Shikama Doji, the First Progenitor and a fallen angel who manipulates human history to resurrect Mikaela, as well as the hidden agenda of commanding officer Guren Ichinose, who seeks to bring back humanity's dead through forbidden taboo spells.
The manga series was published in Shueisha's Jump Square magazine with Kagami writing, Furuya storyboarding, and Yamamoto illustrating in September 2012, and released in 36 manga volumes. It also received recognition, including a nomination for the Best Shonen Manga category at the 40th Kodansha Manga Award in 2016.
It was adapted into light novels, video games, and a manga spinoff, "Catastrophe at Sixteen", drawn by Yo Asami in Kodansha's Monthly Shonen Magazine from June 2017 to February 2022, and released in 11 manga volumes.
Viz Media licensed the series and released it in English, with the first manga volume released in June 2014, and Kodansha USA licensed the spinoff and released it in English, with the first manga volume released in July 2023.
It was adapted into a 2-cour anime series, including the first cour in April 2015 and the second cour in October 2015, and an OVA in May 2016.
