Sho Aimoto's "Kemono Jihen" manga's climax is imminent.

The December 2026 issue of Shueisha's Jump Square magazine announced that the story climax of Sho Aimoto's "Kemono Jihen" remains imminent. The main reason for the series' climax is that the series officially reaches its conclusion with the 26th and final manga volume, which was announced in August 2026.

The story centers on Kohachi Inugami, a Tokyo detective specializing in the occult, who travels to a remote mountain village to investigate mysterious rotting livestock corpses. There, he meets a quiet, abused young boy nicknamed Dorotabo or Mud Yokai by his peers because of his odd stench and menial farm labor.

Kohachi discovers that Dorotabo's real name is Kabane Kusaka, a half-human, half-ghoul hybrid. Kabane possesses a rare Lifestone left by his parents that suppresses his ghoul instincts.

After solving the village case, Inugami takes Kabane under his wing to work at the Inugami Detective Office in Tokyo. Kabane teams up with other troubled supernatural youths to solve cases involving rogue Kemono, manage dangerous magical artifacts, and uncover the dark truths of their own pasts.

The manga series was published in Shueisha's Jump Square magazine in December 2016 and released in 25 manga volumes. Seven Seas Entertainment licensed the series and released it in English, with the first manga volume released in August 2022. It also received recognition, including a 13th runner-up in the Print Manga category at the Next Manga Awards in 2018.

It was adapted into a 12-episode anime series that aired in January 2021, and a stage play adaptation held in September 2026.
