Kodansha is hosting the second Young Magazine USA manga search.


The 45th 2026 issue of Kodansha's Weekly Young Magazine announced that they will host a special edition of the second Young Magazine USA, and they are looking for Japanese manga creators who want their stories published for overseas readers.

The staff is looking for stories themed around an outcast who is overlooked by society and has issues fitting in. Interested applicants must submit a storyboard for a chapter as well as three sample manuscript pages before Sunday, December 13th.

Kodansha's Weekly Young Magazine is a major seinen manga anthology magazine published by Kodansha, released first as a bi-monthly magazine in Japan in June 1980 and shifted into a weekly publication in 1989. It is one of Kodansha’s flagship magazines, instrumental in launching mature and genre-defining manga.

It features stories that are often more mature, gritty, or experimental than shonen magazines. Common themes include crime, romance, action, gambling, business, and slice of life, often with adult humor or fan service.

It is one of the big seinen magazines because it nurtured landmark titles and has a reputation for mixing hard-edged adult storytelling with mainstream hits, making it influential in shaping modern seinen manga.

Animate opens its Philippines branch in Makati, Philippines, in October 2026.

Animate Manila announced the opening date of its first-ever Philippines branch, located on the third floor of One Ayala in Makati, Philippines, on Friday, October 16th. Animate is Japan's largest retail chain specializing in anime, manga, video games, and related pop culture merchandise. The first flagship store was opened in Ikebukuro, Tokyo, Japan, in 1983.
