NIS America releases Nippon Ichi Software's "The Grimm Reapress and the Drearytale Monster" video game in May 2027.


NIS America announced the release date of Nippon Ichi Software's "The Grimm Reapress and the Drearytale Monster" for the PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, and PC via Steam on Thursday, May 13th, 2027, after the video game was released in Japan in April 2026. 

The story takes place in a hand-drawn, fairytale-inspired world plagued by a tragic and magical illness known as Paper Mortis. This affliction causes traumatized girls to endure a cruel transformation: it turns its victims into literal picture books, which then mutate into sorrowful, monstrous forms.

Mono is an ordinary but fiercely determined young girl who will go to any lengths, including making a deal with a dangerous creature, to cure her sister and rescue her from the Libratarium. She meets Mar, a formidable, vengeance-seeking monster who becomes Mono's partner. Because Mono cannot fight the hazards of the picture books alone, she relies on Mar to manipulate the environment, smash obstacles, and combat the dark forces residing within the pages.

Together, they must literally dive into different cursed storybooks. By interacting with, destroying, and reshaping the pages of the breakable picture books, they uncover the tragic pasts of the transformed girls, solve puzzles, and fight bosses in a desperate bid to save Mono's sister.

The gameplay features players controlling the young protagonist Mono directly while giving strategic instructions and commands to her partner, Mar. Stages are designed like physical pages of a book. Players can interact with, reshape, and even tear or destroy elements of the environment to solve puzzles and clear paths.

Players traverse the facility known as the Libratarium by diving directly into individual storybooks. Each book acts as a unique level, revealing the tragic background, memories, and trauma of the young girls affected by Paper Mortis. Face off against corrupted fairytale bosses and paper monsters inside the book realms while tracking down clues to save Mono's sister.

The official website of I*Ris announced that the group will disband in December 2027, which marks the 15th anniversary of the voice actress unit. In preparation for the group's disbandment, they are preparing for their 14th anniversary concert to be held at the Yokohama Arena in Kanagawa Prefecture on Tuesday, November 3rd.
