Writer and Composer Jun Maeda has been diagnosed with pharyngeal cancer.

The official website of Visual Arts and Key announced that writer and music composer Jun Maeda has been diagnosed with pharyngeal cancer and has chosen to focus on palliative care, after considering his condition and the outlook for possible treatment. Pharyngeal cancer is a general term for malignancies that originate in the pharynx.

He also added that Maeda has finished working on the first six chapters of "Heaven Burns Red", including all the major story elements that will take the story to the end of the sixth chapter. He completed the lyrics and composition for the songs in the first half of the sixth chapter. Maeda may no longer be able to fulfill further writing and songwriting duties aside from the above-mentioned segments, depending on the progression of his illness.

Maeda is working on a new original music project with new songs over the long term. After learning of his diagnosis, he has decided to focus on completing the songs currently in development as quickly as possible, which will be released sequentially on YouTube at Maeda's request.

Jun Maeda is a prominent Japanese writer, scenario pioneer, lyricist, and music composer, and also the co-founder of Key by Visual Arts. He co-created early titles such as "Moon" and "One", and also wrote and composed iconic classics such as "Kanon", "Air", "Clannad", and "Little Busters". He created anime series such as "Angel Beats", "Charlotte", and "The Day I Became a God", and mobile projects including "Heaven Burns Red".
