Sanrio's Kuromi is getting its own anime film in 2027.
Sanrio announced that Kuromi is getting its own anime film to be released in Japanese theaters in 2027, where the character celebrates its birthday on Saturday, October 31st.
Kuromi is My Melody's self-proclaimed rival and may seem like a troublemaker, but she's actually quite feminine. She stands out with a rebellious, bad-girl aesthetic that appeals to fans who like a bit of edge and mischief.
Kuromi was created by designers Tomoko Miyagawa and Yuko Yamaguchi and first appeared in the anime series "Onegai My Melody" in April 2005. Her personality has been described as jealous, chaotic, angry, and unpredictable, and she has no qualms about committing various acts of crime. She also has a girly side, with a soft spot for pretty boys and romance novels.
Kuromi shows her Dark Kawaii aesthetic, which blends edgy elements. Relatable and multi-faceted personality who represents herself as a tough, mischievous tomboy and leader of a biker gang, but she has a secret soft side. Alternative fashion appeal that resonates deeply with alternative, goth, punk, and e-girl fashion subcultures.
She's one of the most popular characters in the Sanrio Rankings. Her massive global fanbase consistently pushes her to the top of official Sanrio Character Ranking polls.
