Big West releases "Macross: Frontier" as a Deluxe Edition BD outside Japan in the second quarter of 2027.

Big West announced at the New York Comic Convention that the company will release "Macross: Frontier" on BD as a Deluxe Edition available through GKids in the United States and Anime Limited in the United Kingdom in the second quarter of 2027, with pre-orders now available beginning in December 2026. "Macross: Delta" is also planned to be released on BD sometime in 2026.

The story centers on Alto Saotome, a former kabuki actor and high school pilot trainee who joins Strategic Military Services, or S.M.S., a private military company, as a pilot of the VF-25 Messiah.

When a mysterious, hostile race of insectoid aliens known as the Vajra attacks, it is revealed that they communicate across deep space via fold waves using V-Type microorganisms in their bodies. These creatures are strongly drawn to fold waves generated by human emotions and singing.

As military bureaucracy and standard weapons fail to stop the adapting Vajra, the defense of the fleet relies on S.M.S. and the emotional resonance of music. Along the way, Alto meets Sheryl Nome, a galaxy-renowned idol visiting the fleet, and Ranka Lee, a cheerful part-time worker and aspiring singer who gets caught in the conflict.

Beneath the alien war lies a conspiracy tied to a rival fleet, Macross Galaxy, which seeks to control the Vajra Queen and subject the galaxy to a collective mind network. Ultimately, the power of song unites the heroes, helping the Vajra understand humanity and forging a path to peace.

The anime series aired for 25 episodes in April 2008 and was adapted into a manga series drawn by Aoki Hayato in Kadokawa Shoten's Shonen Ace magazine from December 2007 to November 2009, and released in 5 manga volumes.

The series blends high-budget mecha space battles with a catchy pop-idol music industry storyline, a memorable love triangle, and strong production values.
