Makoto Shinkai's "5 Centimeters Per Second" live-action film releases in North America in October 2026.

GKids announced the release date of the live-action film adaptation of Makoto Shinkai's "5 Centimeters Per Second" to be released in North American theaters on Friday, October 23rd. The home video release is expected to follow.

The story centers on Takaki Tono, a young boy navigating love, distance, and time. He is thoughtful and introspective, but emotionally anchored to his past with Akari Shinohara. His life became cruel winters, cold technology, and adult obligations and responsibilities that converged to test the delicate petals of love.

The live-action film was released first in Japan in October 2025, where the film received praise for its striking cinematography and stronger perspectives of the characters. The live-action film was released at selected SM Cinemas in the Philippines in April 2026.
