The song is about the clumsy, stubborn, and affectionate push-and-pull of young romance, claiming someone is not cute while secretly finding them warm and comforting, comparing them to a hand warmer that provides quiet, steady heat.

The title of the song represents the gap between someone's words and their true feelings. Sometimes, people hide their vulnerability behind jokes, sarcasm, stubbornness, or playful arguments. Admitting that someone matters to them can feel embarrassing because it means allowing themselves to be emotionally exposed.
